Semiotic approaches to big data visualization

With a few exceptions – focusing on journalism (Compagno 2017), works of art (Chartier, Pulizzotto, Chartrand & Meunier 2019, Dondero 2020), deep fake videos (Leone 2021, 2021), and data epistemology (Bachimont 2018) semiotics has been late to approach big data. In contrast information communication studies, which have quick recognize the revolution in medical, biological, political, urbanistic, journalistic practices, while digital humanities history continue offer crucial insight with their analysis large collections artworks heritage objects, yet live up challenge. this Punctum issue we attempted (1) contribute global discussion possible semiotic approaches theory methodology; (2) explore specifically an epistemological visualizations data, i.e., manipulation, design, display, interpretation; (3) study, from critical vantage point, ideologies epistemic perspectives that underlie acts collecting visualizing prior analysis.
